We are looking forward to seeing you at WS !

ISAE2015 Workshop 01 (Room 1, 150chairs)

Theme:
“Read on the cattle Needs by the translation gummy (Honyaku Konnyaku)”

Lecturers:

Discussion leader:
Shigeru Morita (Rakuno Gakuen university, Japan)
Tamaki KIDA (National Institute of Livestock and Grassland Science)
 Masato YAYOTA (Gifu University, Japan)
Shigeru MORITA (Rakuno Gakuen University, Japan)
 Keiji TAKAHASHI (Rakuno Gakuen University
Akira DOKOSHI (Konsen Agricultural Experiment Station)
 Katsuji UETAKE (Azabu University)
Organizer:
Shigeru Morita (Rakuno Gakuen university, Japan)
 Singo Tada (NARO/HARC, Japan)

Abstract:
Doraemon is a robot that can pull out a number of futuristic "tools" from his pocket on his belly. When Doraemon eats the Honyaku Konnyaku (translation gummy), he can understand whatever anyone is saying to him no matter what language they are speaking. Doraemon is just anime character and we don't have real Honyaku Konnnyaku. But, the animal scientists want to understand the cattle needs, even though they can't understand their saying. Then, we made many tools. In WS01, we show you some tools and their research results at several exhibition corners. 1) Measuring "Animal Size" with 3D camera. 2) Acoustic monitoring of eating. 3) Measuring the form of TMR. 4) Kinect Effect. 5) Rumination monitoring, 6) Estimate the Beef Marbling Score by hair of Wagyu. and Others. We also display a memorial exhibition about the achievements of the deceased Dr. Yoshikazu Sato during his lifetime.

Time schedule: Free

Date: 14th Sep, 18:00-20:30

ISAE2015 Workshop 02 (Room2, 24chairs)

Theme:
“Welfare assessment of broiler chickens during transport: assimilating expert opinion”

Lecturers:

Discussion leader:
 Leonie Jacobs (ILVO, Belguim)
Organizer:
 Leonie Jacobs(ILVO, Belguim)
Assistant:
 Mizuna Ogino (Ishikawa Pref. University,Japan)
 Yumi Yamanashi (Kyoto University, Japan)

Abstract:
In order to assess and compare broiler welfare during commercial transports, a new protocol has been developed containing animal-based welfare indicators. The workshop aims at integrating the outcomes of this protocol, which contains multiple welfare indicators, into an overall welfare score. As there is no objective method for this, it is desirable that the integration method is supported by scientific experts. During the workshop, the protocol will be explained, and information on the methodology, prevalence and inter-observer reliability will be presented. The workshop participants will subsequently be invited to score indicators for importance for broiler welfare during transport and for methodological strength. Finally, they will be invited to give input about how to use this information to calculate an overall welfare score.

Time schedule:

  • 18:00-18:30 Presentation of protocol and welfare indicators
  • 18:30-18:40 Explanation of exercise
  • 18:40-19:10 First scoring of indicators by participants
  • 19:10-19:30 Break
  • 19:30-20:00 Presentation and discussion of results
  • 20:00-20:30 Second scoring of indicators by participants
  • 20:30 Closing

Date: 14th Sep, 18:00-20:30

ISAE2015 Workshop 03 (Room3, 50chairs)

Theme:
“Animal welfare: Local and global movement”

Lecturers:

Discussion leader
Michael Appleby (World Animal Protection, UK)
Natalie Waran (University of Edinburgh, UK)
Jean-Loup Rault (University of Melbourne, Australia)
Shusuke Sato (Teikyo University of Science, Japan)
Organizer:
Tsuyoshi Shimmura (National Institute for Basic Biology, Japan),
Yoshie Kakuma (Teikyo University of Science, Japan),
 Daisuke Kohari (Ibaraki University, Japan)

Abstract:
Animal welfare has been spread rapidly and globally. For example, the law for banning the conventional cages has been already enforced in EU, and such regulation has been also exist in some states of America, Australia, and some Asian countries. In this workshop, we aim to share the information on the present state of animal welfare in each region and discuss about the global future.

Time schedule:

  • 18:00-18:05 Opening remark (Organizers)
  • 18:05-18:15 Introduction of workshop from discussion leader (Dr. Michael Appleby, World Animal Protection, UK)
  • 18:15-18:45 Dr. Natalie Waran (University of Edinburgh, UK)
  • 18:45-19:15 Dr. Dr. Jean-Loup Rault (University of Melbourne, Australia)
  • 19:15-19:30 Break
  • 19:30-20:00 Dr. Shusuke Sato (Teikyo University of Science, Japan)
  • 20:00- General Discussion

Date: 14th Sep, 18:00-20:30

ISAE2015 Workshop 04 (Room 4, 50 chairs)

Theme:
“Behavioural management of zoo animals”

Lecturers:

Discussion leader:
Yoshikazu Ueno (Higashiyama Zoo & Botanical Gardens, Japan)
Kouji Yamada (Rakuno Gakuen University, Japan)
 Yoshitaka Deguchi (Iwate University, Japan)
Organizer:
Yoshikazu Ueno (Higashiyama Zoo & Botanical Gardens, Japan)
 Tadatoshi Ogura (Kitasato University, Japan)

Abstract:
Behavioral management is essential to the two important roles of modern zoos: animal welfare and ex-situ conservation. The principals of behavioral management of zoo animals are similar to those of farm animals. However, the roles of zoo and farm animals in human society are different and methodologies used for the studies vary accordingly. This workshop aims to discuss the significance and future views of behavioral management of zoo animals based on the comparison between zoo and farm animals. As a result, we could anticipate the progress of methodologies for the practice and assessment of the behavioral management of zoo animals.

Time schedule:

  • 18:00-18:05 Opening remark (Organizers)
  • 18:05-18:25 Dr. Yoshikazu Ueno (Higashiyama Zoo & Botanical Gardens, Japan)
  • 18:25-18:45 Dr. Kouji Yamada (Rakuno Gakuen University, Japan)
  • 18:45-19:15 Dr.Yoshitaka Deguchi (Iwate University, Japan)
  • 19:15-(20:00) General Discussion
